The Wine
One of the best things about living in France is the broad variety of inexpensive wines on offer. To reflect this we have a new idea this year – to serve a different white and red six nights a week (we have one day off). We have been researching all summer which has been tremendous fun for Heidi and I – and we’ve been learning as we go.
So far we have identified a Corbiere, a Cotes du Rhone, and a Bordeaux in the reds. We’ll also be serving the popular Merlot from last season. We are currently looking for a Cahors and a Burgundy.
We have given up on the local Savoie reds. The Savoie whites are better. We can’t quite stretch the pick of the bunch, Chignin Bergeron, but will have a case or two in the chalet should anyone want to pay a supplement. At the Tignes wine fair this summer we met a lively young chap representing a vineyard near Chambery. He invited us to the premises and we have chosen their Apremont – it’s delicious and crisp! We’ve also picked up an Alsace (not too sweet) and will be serving the budget blowing Touraine Sauvignon that was so popular last year.
